Frequently Asked Questions
-
A doula is a trained support person who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. A doula does not replace your medical team, but works alongside them to help you feel more prepared, supported, and confident.
-
Many families reach out during the second or early third trimester so there is enough time to build a relationship, talk through preferences, and prepare for birth. If you are later in pregnancy, you can still reach out to check availability.
-
The best first step is to reach out and schedule a consultation. During the consultation, you can ask questions, talk through your needs, and decide which type of support feels like the best fit for your family.
-
No. A doula supports both the birthing person and their partner. The goal is to help your partner feel more confident, involved, and supported throughout the experience.
-
Yes. Support is available for many different birth preferences and experiences, including medicated births, unmedicated births, inductions, cesarean births, hospital births, birth center births, and home labor support before transferring to your birth location.
-
A doula provides non-medical support. This can include comfort measures, emotional support, education, and guidance as you ask questions and make informed decisions. Medical care, diagnosis, procedures, and treatment recommendations remain with your doctor, midwife, or nurse.
-
Postpartum doula support helps families adjust after the baby arrives. This support may include newborn care guidance, feeding support, recovery support, emotional reassurance, and practical help so parents can rest, heal, and feel more confident.
-
Yes. Lactation support can be helpful for breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, supplementing, or combination feeding. The goal is to support your feeding journey in a way that works for you and your baby.
-
That is completely normal. A consultation is a good place to talk through your pregnancy, postpartum needs, feeding goals, questions, and available support options. From there, services can be personalized based on your familyβs needs.
-
No. Every familyβs needs are different. Services may vary depending on the package selected, availability, birth preferences, postpartum needs, feeding goals, and any additional support requested.
